PICOslop
Some Good Info
PICO-8 uses a fixed set of controls that are uniform throughout all games. The controls are as follows:
- Arrow Keys
- C Key (Represented by a circle in PICO-8)
- X Key (Represented by an X in PICO-8)
- Enter (opens the pause menu, no matter what. Enter is not a programmable control but it's nice to know you can pause any game.)
What each button does depends on what the developer (me) programmed them to do per that game's needs. Some games have the controls listed somewhere, but if they don't just button mash until you figure it out. There's only 6 possible buttons. It's usually not that hard.
If you want to reload or replay a game, just refresh the page.
All of these games are very crude and unlikely to ever be finished.
Aftershock
Aftershock is a game about triangulating the epicenter of an earthquake. Choose a map, then select a city and press X to enter graph mode. In graph mode, move the P and S wave markers (green and red respectively) such that they match with the numbers on the top right. When you have the graph set, press the circle button to lock in that distance. Rinse and repeat 2 more times, and if you've done everything correctly then there should be one point where all 3 circles intersect. When you're confident you've found the epicenter, press circle to enter cursor mode and use the arrow keys to move it to where about you think the epicenter is, and press X to submit your answer. You will then be given a score. Lower scores are better. 0 is a perfect score and means you located the exact epicenter.
Stars
Stars was originally a demo for myself to figure out how to code a parallax effect in the form of stars moving across the screen. Somehow along the way it became something resembling a game. The concept is simple, you move the crosshair with the arrow keys and use the X button to fire at the squares. The sooner you get them, the more money you will get for shooting it. If you don't shoot it in time, it will damage you for 5 hp. There is a shop, but it doesn't have a UI at the moment. IIRC the only thing you can get in there anyways is healing, there's no upgrades yet. Don't hold down the fire key or else you'll overheat and your gun will be temporarily disabled!
